Surfers Paradise

The Gold Coast: Kangaroo Kelly remembers visiting the Gold Coast back in the 70's. Then it was a pleasure to receive a parking ticket from a bikini clad meter maid. Alas, those days are gone. Now the Gold Coast sports an international casino, magnificent houses alongside man made canals and modern hotels that reach for the sky all along Surfers Paradise and other people accessible beachfronts. Population 527,700. See Gold Coast Tourism

The Gold Coast is about 45 miles/70 km south of Brisbane. A very popular tourist destination, not only by Aussies and New Zealanders but from tourists and visitors worldwide. And no wonder. A series of glorious white sand beaches stretching 26 miles/42 km from the New South Wales coast. Coolangatta, now with an international airport, Tweed Heads, Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads, Miami Beach, Surfers Paradise and Southport; International hotels, restaurants, shops and amusements hug the beaches further than the eye can see.

Go for a leisurely boat cruise along the canals of Surfers Paradise, enjoy shopping in world-class arcades and shopping complexes, have a swim in the deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean or simply relax under a beach umbrella on the magnificent white sand. The Gold Coast offers great family entertainment. Visit Dreamworld, Warner Bros. Movieworld, Sea World or Wet 'N Wild Water Park. The hinterland offers caves, gorges, waterfalls, the subtropical rainforests of Lamington National Park and the Tamborine Mountain.

Nightlife:

A multitude of nightlife, attractions and restaurants abound. Try your luck at Conrads Jupiters Casino and Hotel

Gold Coast Golf:

The Gold Coast is Australia's and a favourite international holiday playground located about 1 hours drive south from Brisbane. You could play every day for a month and not play all the very best courses in this region if you include the Sunshine coast, about a 1 hours drive north of Brisbane. All transport on the island is by 4wd. Accessible by light aircraft, fast launch or barge from Pinkenba, a Brisbane suburb.

Just an hour's drive north of Brisbane is the Sunshine Coast, a chain of sandy beaches beginning at Caloundra and including the towns of Noosa Heads, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and the Glasshouse Mountains and Blackall Range hinterlands. Visit the Big Pineapple, the Ginger Factory and Underwater World. Quieter than the Gold Coast but every bit as beautiful, even more so if you like glorious beaches, absolutely perfect climate and less hustle and bustle.Further north is Hervey Bay, a prime whale watching area and Fraser Island, a world heritage-listed area known for its mile long beaches, lakes and wilderness. Fraser Island is the world's largest sand island and offers visitors excellent fishing, bushwalking and 4wd options amongst rainforest and beach landscapes.

An area of great beauty is the Whitsundays featuring 74 islands just north of Mackay, offering superb boating and coral viewing. Accommodation ranges from luxury hotels and resorts to campsites. A wide range of charter vessels operates to the Whitsunday islands from the holiday centres at Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour. Townsville, the business centre of North Queensland, is located 851 miles/1371 km north of Brisbane. Visit the Great Barrier Reef Wonderland, Billabong Sanctuary and the Sheraton Breakwater Casino.
