Thredbo Lodge Skiing
The Thredbo Snow Resort
has been in the business of winter fun and summer adventure for over 50 years. Although it started as a small ski resort in 1957, it is now a village that is home to 200 people and almost a million tourists every year. It is not just the snow that brings them in, either. There are also many summer activities to keep the adrenalin pumping.
Thredbo has the longest ski runs in Australia, and there are lifts for beginning skiers too. Every Thursday and Saturday Thredbo offers Twilight skiing, and of course, there are several restaurants and cafes with delicious food after a long day of skiing.
During the summer months, there is even more to do in Thredbo. Hike Australia’s tallest mountain, or go mountain biking or bobsledding. If that is a little too much excitement, there are also more laid-back activities like golfing and tennis. No matter what time of year you go, Thredbo Snow Resort has something for you!

Snowy Mountains

Australia is a dry, arid and predominately flat continent with the clearest skies on earth. It is also a very old land mass; rock crystal found in Western Australia has been aged 4.3 billion years. Snow covered mountains are few. The two winter sports regions are the Snowy Mountains located in the southeast of New South Wales and the Victorian Alps located in the northeast of Victoria.

During the winter months, June to October, the Ski resorts of Thredbo, Perisher Valley, Smiggins Valley and Mt Selwyn come alive with fast paced action for the experienced skier and more sedate action on the gentler slopes for the novice.

Thredbo

Arguably Australia's best known and most chic ski resort. Australians, especially Sydneysiders and Melbournians flock there, as do international visitors for the ski season. Located inside the Kosciusko National Park, the resort offers walking trails, chairlifts, an alpine slide, mountain bike rentals, fully equipped gymnasium, a cinema, conference facilities, medical centre, and a chapel. Ski Village lodges available.

Mt Kosciusco is Australia's tallest mountain, rising 7,234 feet/2,228 m above the Great Dividing range that stetches from the northeast of Victoria to the northeast of Queensland. Small in height when compared to the European Alps and the Rockies in western North America, but assuredly, a unique and wonderful winterland as the sking is world class and the native eucalyptus trees create a distinctly different view to the visitors eye. You will love the sound of magpies chortling and the sounds of other birdlife that is prolific in the mountains as it is in most parts of Australia.

Go to Thredbo Australia

When the snow has gone, don't despair, Kosciusko National Park is perfect for bush walking, mountain biking, trout fishing and horse riding. Take one of the special mountain bike trails or walk on "the roof of Australia". Jindabyne, Cooma and Berridale offer excellent accommodation, ski hire, crafts and tours to historic sites and Australia's High Country wilderness.

Victorian Alps.

Falls Creek, Mt Baw Baw, Mt Buffalo, Mt Buller and Mt Hotham are to be found here. The Victorian Alps runs from the Mansfield District to the upper reaches of the Murray River at Corryong, boasting some of Australia’s finest skiing terrain and in the warmer months, walking tracks, touring roads and unspoilt wilderness areas. Resort Lodges available. Click on links below for ski resort sites.

Falls Creek | Mt Baw Baw | Mt Buffalo | Mt Buller | Mt Hotham

Mt Bogong is the highest peak, rising 6553 feet/1986 m, Mt Buffalo about 5950 feet/1816 m. Criss-crossing the entire region are numerous roads, tracks and trails making for unsurpassed scenic touring. Perhaps the most renowned of all is the Great Alpine Road. This route leads from Wangaratta through valleys and across the very top of the Victorian Alps to Bairnsdale on the south-east coast.
