City Highlights Canberra's climate and facilities make it an ideal place for sailing, fishing, cricket, football and hang gliding; there are more than 180 miles of bicycle paths. The Australian War Memorial is a national shrine and museum housing a fascinating collection of paintings, weapons, uniforms and exhibits documenting Australia's military history. Other attractions include the Royal Australian Mint, National Aquarium, Australian Wildlife Sanctuary and the Australian Institute of Sport. Canberra's sub-alpine climate is similar to that of the famous Bordeau region of France and not surprisingly, the local wine industry is fast building a reputation for the production of a range of first class cool climate wines. Canberra is only an hour by air from either Sydney or Melbourne.
