Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island is about 1050 miles/1700 kms est northeast of Sydney, a flying time of two and a half hours. Most of the 2000 residents are descendents of Fletcher Christian and the Bounty mutineers, a unique mix of English, Tahitian. Norfolk Island has a colourful past and its history has been dilegently preserved. The island covers 3455 hectares, a third of which is national parks and reserves. Birds are prolific, and the lagoon and the ocean reefs have more than 1000 varieties of coral.

Climate & Activities

The mild sub-tropical climate makes the island ideal for such activities as fishing, birdwatching, bushwalking, scuba diving and snorkelling. Take a boat trip around the island or a 4wd tour. Duty free shopping is a highlight and bargains can be found among luxury items.

Christmas Island, with an area of 135 square kms, lies in the Indian Ocean about 2600 kms from Perth. About 2000 people - chiefly Chinese, Malay and Caucasian - live on the island.

A tropical island with white sandy beaches covered by rainforest; more than 60% of the island has been declared a national park. The coral reef surrounding the island is rich in marine life, including large schools of dolphins and the majestic whale shark.

Christmas Island is renowned for its fishing spots and for its crabs - especially the red crab which migrates annually across the island. Activities include deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling and rainforest walks. Visit the Casino and resort offering deluxe rooms and suites with ocean views, a 24 hour room service, a choice of restaurants offering international cuisine and a pool and fitness centre. In the casino, visitors can enjoy a game of baccarat, blackjack and roulette in luxurious surroundings. Australian currency is used on this duty free island. Other than the Casino, you have the choice of motel/lodge style accommodations.

Cocos (Keeling) Island

Located about 2700 kms north west of Perth, the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean comprise 27 coral islands forming two atolls. The permanent inhabitants are Cocos Malays, numbering about 600.

The tropical climate, brilliant clear waters and white sandy beaches, make the islands ideal for swiming and sunbathing, snokelling, diving, fishing and other leisure pursuits such as golf. Australian currency is used and the islands are duty free.
